Kortikosteroidler çocukluk fonksiyonu azaltmak ve kemik erimesinin ve uzun süreli tedavi sırasında kemik kaybı bağırsak kalsiyum emilimini engeller. Buna ek olarak, kemik matrisinin özellikle yüksek dozlarda uzun süre veya verilen, aseptik nekroz ve kırık yol açan kortikosteroidlerin protein haline dönüşmesini etkileri etkilenebilir. Uzun süreli veya yüksek doz kortikosteroid tedavi gerekirse osteoporoz için risk altında olan ya da hastalarda dikkatli uygulanmalıdır. İskelet olumsuz etkileri alternatif günlük veya aralıklı İdaresi tarafından simge durumuna küçültülmüş olabilir. Ya da daha 7,5 mg prednizon/gün eşdeğer olan herhangi bir alan hastaya uzun süreli tedaviye bağlı osteoporoz davranış soruları için risk altındadır ve Romatizma Birliği (ACR) kurallar Amerikan Koleji göre yönetilmelidir.
