Diüretikler kullanımı genellikle elektrolit kaybı, en önemlisi ama aynı zamanda potasyum, sodyum, klorür, bikarbonat ve magnezyum ile ilişkilidir. Bu fosfat, bromür ve iyodür gibi diğer elektrolit kaybı genellikle hafif. Potasyum ve magnezyum azalması, kardiyak aritmi ve kardiyak arreste neden olabilir. Diğer elektrolit ilgili komplikasyonların nadiren hayatı olan metabolik alkaloz ve hiponatremi, hayati tehlike vardır.
