Kortikosteroidler eylemi bastırmanın ve periferik glikoz alımı ve artmış glukoneogenez inhibisyon sonucu insülin salgısını baskılayarak kan şekeri seviyesini yükseltebilir. Kortikosteroidler ile tedavi dikkatle diabetes mellitus, glukoz intoleransı, hiperglisemi ya da yatkınlığı olan hastalarda uygulanmalıdır. Diyabet hastalar daha yakından kortikosteroid tedavisi esnasında izlenmelidir ve antidiyabetik rejimi buna göre ayarlanır.
